In season 2024/25 Maria Nazarova will return to Teatro alla Scala as Giacinta in a new production of L’Orontea by Antonio Cesti. As an ensemble member at the Vienna State Opera she will sing Despina in Cosi fan Tutte, Musetta in La Bohéme, and make her role debut as Pamina in Die Zauberflöte, as well as Brigitta in a new production of Iolanta and as Prilepa in La Dame de Pique by Tchaikovsky.
Previous season highlights at the Vienna State Opera include Lisa in La Sonnambula, Adele in Die Fledermaus, Amanda in the new production of Le Grand Macabre, Jemmy in Guillaume Tell, Susanna in the new production of Le Nozze di Figaro, Sophie in Werther, Adina in L’Elisir d’Amore, Sister Constance in the new production of Dialogues des Carmelites, Clorinda in La Cenerentola, Frasquita in Carmen.
This summer Maria made her debut at the Summer Festival Oper Burg Gars in Austria portraying Adina in a new production of L’Elisir d’Amore.
Among Nazarova’s recent appearances are her debuts with Teatro del Maggio Musicale Fiorentino, at the Staatsoper Berlin as Najade in Ariadne auf Naxos, and at Stuttgart State Opera she sang Adele as well as jumped in as Adina. She performed the role of Prilepa in the new production of La Dame de Pique at Teatro alla Scala, was invited to sing Adina in L’Elisir d’Amore at Hamburg State Opera, and returned as Papagena in Die Zauberflöte at the Salzburg Festival.
Other engagements include a series of debuts with New National Theatre Tokyo as Adele, Festival d’Aix en Provence and Opéra de Lyon in the new production of The Golden Cockerel by Tschaikovsky as the Golden Cockerel. Maria made her debut at Teatro alla Scala as Adele in Die Fledermaus, and debut as Despina in Cosi fan Tutte at the stage of Bolshoi Theatre Moscow.
Maria became a member of the ensemble of the Wiener Staatsoper in 2015 where she was first heard as Oscar, Sophie (Werther), Yniold, Fiakermilli, Waldvogel, Barbarina, among other roles. During her studies in Vienna Conservatory at the Opera Studio, Maria was invited to sing Gretel in the new production of Hänsel und Gretel with Lithuanian State Symphony Orchestra, followed by her debut as Lisa in La Sonnambula at the Staatstheater am Gärtnerplatz in Munich.
Before studying at the Vienna Conservatory, Maria graduated with honours from the Russian Academy of Theatre and Arts in Moscow, as well as a Master’s degree at the Universität Mozarteum Salzburg. Maria Nazarova is a prizewinner of several international voice competitions and won the sirst prize in the Primo Concorso Lirico Internazionale di Portofino in 2015 in Italy.
