Hwapyeong Gwon

Tenor Hwapyeong Gwon was born in Gangwondo, South Korea.

He completed his bachelor’s degree in singing with Youngmi Kim at the Korea National University of Arts in Seoul.

Hwapyeong Gwon performed concerts in Korea, USA, Canada, Austria, Serbia, Montenegro and Bulgaria. In 2011 he sang in productions at the National University of Arts, including as a guest of honor in the operetta “Die Fledermaus”, as well as a soloist in the opera “Gianni Schicchi” (Rinuccio) and in 2016 in “Lucia di Lammermoor” (Edgardo). In 2017, he was also a guest of honor at the official concert at the annual police ceremony in Seoul.

In the same year he portrayed Hamlet in the premiere of the contemporary Korean opera by Hyerin Kong.

Since 2021, Hwapyeong Gwon has been studying with Anton Scharinger in the opera master’s program at the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna. 2022, 2023 took part as a soloist in the opera “Verkaufte Braut” (Hans), “Idomeneo” (Idomeneo) in a university production. In 2023 he received second place in the international GIULIO NERI competition. And in 2023 He was awarded the audience prize at the international Cappuccili competition. Selected as finalist in BELVEDERE SINGING competition 2024.
